It is used in the treatment of Chronic phase CML, philadelphia chromosome positive CML in blast crisis after the failure of interferon-alpha therapy. It is also used in the treatment of myelodysplastic diseases due to rearrangements in gene of Platelet-derived growth factor receptors, as a combination therapy along with other anti-cancer drugs, and in the treatment of chronic esinophilic leukemia, gastrointestinal stromal tumors and a rare type of skin cancer called dermatofibrosarcoma.
