Viruses and how they affect us
Viruses are quintessential parasites; They depend on the host cell for almost all their life-sustaining functions. Unlike true organisms, viruses cannot synthesize proteins, as they lack ribosomes, which are cell organelles, necessary for the translation of viral messenger RNA into proteins. Viruses must use the ribosomes of their host cells to translate viral mRNA into viral proteins.
They can also be classified as energy parasites; unlike cells, they cannot generate or store energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The virus obtains energy, as well as all other metabolic functions, from the host cell. The invading virus uses the host cell's nucleotides and amino acids to synthesize its own nucleic acids and proteins, respectively. Some viruses use the host cell's lipid and sugar chains to build their membranes and glycoproteins (proteins attached to small polymers consisting of many sugars). The real infectious part of any virus is its nucleic acid, either DNA or RNA but never both. In many viruses, but not all, only the nucleic acid, stripped of its capsid, can infect (infect) cells, although much less efficiently than in intact viruses. These parasitic organisms cause viral infections or diseases in humans.
Viral diseases
Viral diseases are very widespread infections caused by viruses, a type of microorganism. There are several types of viruses that cause many types of viral diseases. The most common type of viral disease is the common cold, which is caused by a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract (nose and throat). Other common viral diseases include chickenpox, flu (influenza), herpes, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS), human papillomavirus (HPV), infectious mononucleosis, mumps, measles, and rubella.
The cure
Antiviral medicine helps our body fight off some of the viruses that can cause illness. They can also be used to prevent viral infections and reduce the risk of spreading. These tiny infectious agents that grow and multiply inside the living cells of an organism can be killed using such antiviral drugs. They also prevent them from attaching to healthy cells and entering a host cell where they can replicate. Most antivirals target specific viruses, while a broad-spectrum antiviral is effective against a wide range of viruses. Unlike most antibiotics, antiviral drugs do not destroy their target pathogen; Instead, they inhibit its development.
